A gay man trapped in Kabul has claimed that the Taliban are ‘hunting them,’ while describing what life would be like for the LGBTQ+ community under the extremists’ rule.
In an exclusive interview with MailOnline, the man, whose identity has been withheld for his own safety, stated that the Taliban would take pleasure in hunting down and killing LGBTQ+ people.
‘They kill us brutally.’ ‘They will use fire, or they will behead or stone us, and they will enjoy it – it is acceptable to them,’ he says.
He went on to say that his best friend killed himself because “no one was here to listen to his voice.”
‘I tried to encourage him, to give him hope, but he didn’t return, and I’ll never forget that moment.’

People who engage in same-sex sexual behaviour are persecuted under Afghan law, so homosexuality is already illegal. However, according to the Taliban’s extremist interpretation of Sharia Law, homosexuality is strictly prohibited and punishable by death in the most heinous ways.
